In the latter part of 1979 and into early 1980, several Brothers of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. attempted to organize a graduate chapter in Dothan, AL. They had a meeting at Brother James C. Smith’s house with Brother Gus White, Brother Theodore Whiting, Brother Tellis Copeland, Brother John Hackett, and a special guest, a Brother from Alpha Phi Chapter, Brother Robert Holmes. In the spring of 1980, they had another meeting at Brother John Hackett’s place. But, it was not until 1981, with the arrival of Brother William H. McPherson and Brother Sidney Brewer, that the area had the assets to fully implement the goal of attaining a graduate chapter of The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

The first meeting of this interest group was held on March 21, 1981. The main objective was to establish a chapter. There were several different alternatives discussed. The alternatives were as follows: join a graduate chapter that was already established, find enough Brothers in this area to establish a new chapter, or join an established chapter and then make additional Brothers. As we all know, the second alternative was chosen.
Brother William H. McPherson was given the responsibility of finding Men of Omega in the Ozark/Enterprise area. The job he did was outstanding. He was able to find Brother Howard O’ Neal, Brother Ronald Holloway, Brother John King, Brother Charles Morrison Jr, and Brother Kewyn Williams. Brother John Hackett was appointed chairman responsible for the overall organization of the chapter. Brother Sidney Brewer was given the responsibility of coordinating with other established chapters, the Seventh District Representative, and National Headquarters, to find the means by which a graduate chapter could be established.

During the next meeting, which was held on May 8, 1981, Brother Theodore Whiting made a cornerstone proposal that an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Organization Fund be established. In other words, “Put your money where your mouth is!”

June 12, 1981, marked the first official meeting of the Wiregrass Area Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Officers were elected and organization funds were collected. The KRS, Brother Sidney Brewer began inquiring correspondence on organizing a graduate chapter with State Representative, Brother Aubrey Page, District Representative Brother David Beckeley, and National Executive Secretary Brother Peter Reeder. The National Executive Secretary referred Brother Sidney Brewer to the 7th District Representative. Brother David Beckeley, the State Representative, and Brother Aubrey Page mailed the procedure paperwork for organizing a chapter to HeadQuarters.

On SEPTEMBER 1, 1981, KRS Brother Sidney Brewer mailed the forms and dues with the names of eleven Brothers for a graduate chapter to the National HeadQuarters.

The requirements needed to establish a graduate chapter were for only nine active Brothers to be financial with dues and National fees paid up. Progress was slow initially. The chapter waited for approximately one year for the notification from the National HeadQuarters and District Representative. The Brothers saw a point in time when Perseverance was imperative for the survival of the chapter.

During the District meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 12, 1982, Basileus Brother John Hackett was recognized and informed by the District Representative, Brother David Beckeley, that Kappa Beta Beta would become the 95th Chapter in the 7th District— Alabama, Georgia, Florida, & Mississippi.

Kappa Beta Beta was Charted on June 25, 1982.
